About Us
At RespÉire we are developing the R3. The first Respiratory Rate measuring device designed by Nurses for Nurses. With Respiratory Rate being monitored only 17% of the time during Observations, The R3 offers a fast, portable and simple to use solution, compared to current manual methods.
FAQ’s
What is Respiration Rate?
Respiration Rate (RR) is one of the 5 key vital signs monitored by Nurses during Observations. It involves counting the number of times the chest rises during a 1 minute period, with each rise counting as 1 breath or 1 RR. A typical Respiration Rate should be between 12 to 20 breaths per minute. Respiration Rate is considered the most important vital sign as it is often the first sign of clinical deterioration, such as from an infection, cardiac arrest or respiratory decline.
What are Observations?
Observations, colloquially known as Obs are one of the key duties of Nurses, that can be dated back to 1676. They are a global standard performed by Nurses in every corner of the world. They Involve the measurement of the 5 vital signs at regular intervals (such as every 4 hours), this includes Blood Pressure, Blood oxygen saturation. Heart Rate, Temperature and Respiration Rate. Each Vital sign is given a parameter, and once it falls outside this parameter it indicates that something is wrong, prompting investigation, diagnosis and pre-emptive treatment.
Why is Respiration Rate not performed?
The reason Respiration Rate is not performed is multi-faceted. This includes the overwhelming nature of Nursing, Growing issues with Understaffing and the Awkward, Inefficient and Outdated nature of manually measuring Respiration Rate. However the key issue lies with measurement as every other vital sign has developed a globally used automatic measuring counterpart except for Respiration Rate, which is still widely disputed. RespÉire aims to solve this by taking a needs led approach that accounts for every aspect of Observations to ensure seamless adoption of the R3.
